Internet won't connect to laptop but wireless will to ipad?

Hi. We have a dlink wireless adsl router connected via cable to our asus laptop and we connect our ipad in via wireless. When we turn our computer on it will not connect to the Internet but our ipad will still login. If I open the network info on the laptop it says it is connected via wireless network connection but we can't open the Internet? It worked perfectly until yesterday and to my knowledge we've changed nothing. We have tried restarting, disconnecting router and reconnecting and different cables. Any ideas?

Thanks so much

Thanks so much this has been hugely helpful! One of our network adapters was disabled. I have enabled it and the router is now recognising it. I restarted the computer and it now says that it is connected wireless and cable but I can still only get wireless on the ipad and no Internet access on the laptop!?

What is your Asus laptops model number? I can help get the correct Ethernet driver for you if I know what model the laptop is. I still believe it is driver related because after enabling the network adapter your PC now recognizes the adapter but still can't connect to the internet. The PC maybe using the incorrect driver for your adapter even if it appears fine in device manager. I know windows will some times update the drivers and install drivers they believe are compatible with your hardware, but sometimes they are not fully compatible. So it's best to have the driver that was made specifically for your hardware. Also the iPad can access the internet but are you able to surf the internet on numerous sites without issues? I ask this because that way I know it's not an issue with your internet service provider.

The model number is K53S (I hope that's the right number - it's next to 'model' on the back). Yes we can access all Internet sites on the ipad as usual with no issues whatsoever. We have been on the phone to our provider and from their end they are saying everything is working and it should be connecting. Thanks for your help!

Following on from what you have just said I have looked up update history and a whole heap of things automatically updated on the day we have lost connection. It says every one of the updates was successful. I can't see any drivers on the list? It seems like you are totally on the right track! Thanks.

Is it possible to remove updates?

Also wondering - if I need to reinstall something or update how can I do so if I can't download from the Internet?

I forgot to ask what operating system you are using on the Asus laptop also if its is 64 bit or 32 bit. Also you gave me the correct model number and there are 6 versions of this model. They are K53Sc, K53Sd, K53Sj, K53Sk, K53Sm, and K53Sv. So if can figure out what version it is that would be great. If not we can still try to find the correct driver. They do not all use the same ethernet hardware so we need to figure out which version your model is so we can install the proper driver for the ethernet hardware. let me know and I am glad to help.

It is likely a driver issue. If your network adapter has the incorrect driver or doesn't have one installed then you will not have internet access. You can use the device manager in the control panel settings. It will show you what driver is installed and if the device has any conflicts or if it is running smoothy. Your laptop likely has two network adapters. One for wireless and one for the wired. So device manager will help you see if they are working properly. To access the device manager go to the control panel menu and then hardware and sound then device manager. In device manager locate your network adapters and click on them to see all the driver info, ect. I've had this happen before and I noticed my driver was missing(not sure why?). I downloaded the driver, installed it and my internet was able to connect.

If you need a driver go to the Asus website and find the driver downloads section for your particular model. Download and install the correct drivers if needed. Hope this helps.

How do you download a driver update if you can't connect to the internet.

by

Hi @tomhaley

You could use another pc, tablet etc which has internet access, go to the device manufacturers website e,g, if it is Asus go to their support page for your model laptop, look for the particular driver download that you are having trouble with e.g. WLAN drivers, download to a USB drive, plug that into the faulty laptop , do a driver update from Device manager,. When it asks for driver install disc, point it to the downloaded file in the USB drive and it will install it from there.

You have to download the driver from another computer that has internet access and save it to a storage device such as a flash drive, CD, external hard drive, etc. Then you can install it on your computer from that storage device you saved the driver on.

For driver download and install, I'd like to recommend a driver finder and updater tool that is powerful and functional to find outdated and missing driver and then install the drivers with one click.

Plus, the tool is totally free and safe, so I recommend.

When I click on both adapters, both were said to be working properly. So, what now?

Try Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right click the device (mine is Qualcomm) > Uninstall > Restart your laptop. It works really well for me :)
