Replacing Ram - Do I need to save or back up anything?

My battery recently gave me a grave warning, and as I was purchasing a new one, I saw that I can upgrade my ram as well, so I purchased 2 slots of ram to replace it.

I understand the idea of ram, however, I am curious if I need to take any precautions before I begin such as backing up and saving important data.

Thanks!

Discharge your static electricity in your body before working on it. Just reach over and touch the center plate screw of an electrical outlet, radiator pipe, water pipe or other metal grounded out appliance. See this question for hints on ESD (electro static discharge). Do I really need a anti-static strap/mat for dismantling a desktop?
