My phone got wet and I cannot take calls or shoot video

I don't know if these two things are related, or can be fixed in one-shot, but this has happened before, and fixed itself after a few days...not this time.

I have to use a Bluetooth headset to accept or make calls, and the video camera does not work, though the still camera works fine.

A number of things can be damaged from liquid damage. And the longer you wait, the more corrosion will take its toll on your phone. I expect that soon more functions may stop working, and/or iPhone could die on you after the next software update the or restore.

What you must NOT do:

- Restore your phone;

- Keep using it in its current state;

What you SHOULD do:

- Turn it off ASAP;

- Use this guide to remove your phone's logic board;

- Brush>soak>air-dry>brush>soak>brush>soak>air-dry (air-dry using hair dryer, at low temp, but high-speed) your logic board using 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush. Brush any and all visible marks of corrosion. Remove the black "nylon film" around the screen connectors to reach the components underneath it.

This is far from ideal, because corrosion could be taking its toll underneath the metal shields that cover most of your iPhone's logic board. Ideally, you should remove those shields and clean underneath them as well. However, since it requires special tools and some specialized experience, you could start with the above steps, post pictures of what you see before and after cleaning, then reseat your logic board and test it.

**A few notes:

- No need to remove the battery from the phone. Leave it be. You can remove the logic board without removing the battery.

- No need to put back all the screws during testing;

- No using of metal tools on the logic board WHATSOEVER. Only plastic tools such as credit card, guitar pick, nylon spudger. Screwdrivers are meant for screws ONLY, not to detach connectors from the logic board;

- The cables that attach to the board could be corroded as well, specially if you see that the connectors on the board where they sit are corroded. Flip them over, examine them, and if needed clean them as well using the same method. Just stay away from the LCD and the cameras with that alcohol, as you may risk ruining them.

It may seem a bit daunting, and indeed it is a big PIA to clean a device after liquid damage. But that's your only hope (or have it done by a pro) to keep your phone running on the long-run.

Good luck!
