Will your 500GB, 5400rpm, 2.5" replacement hard drive fit this mode?

Your replacement hard drive described above shows additional contacts that are not on the original hard drive. As you look at the drive from the bottom, with contacts on the top, you have an extra set of 4 contacts to the right of the center two sets of contacts. The original hard drive does not have these contacts. The original drive is a Hitachi,5K320-160, 160GB SATA. Will the replacement drive you offer work?

Chosen Solution

The four pins on the top part of the image are testing SATA port speed adjustment contacts for the hard drive. They are not accessed by the Mac mini system.

The specs of the drive:

Interface: SATA 3.0 Gb/s

Speed: 5400 RPM

Dimensions: 2.5" (69.85mm) wide x .37" (9.5mm) tall

Meets the systems requirements: Mac mini 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo (Late 2009)

Are you sure this drive is large enough for your needs?

If you think you may need more than 500 GB there are larger drives upto 2 TB in size! And there are even hybrid drives which have a SSD acting as a deep cache to give your system some zip.

You even can replace your optical drive to a second HD or even swap it out for a SSD.

And lastly RAM, you can boost it upto 8 GB or RAM after you have updated the firmware.
