Works fine but black screen?

Recently I was fly fishing an took a picture of a lunker that I caught. I put my phone on the ground and got it wet (not dropped or submerged in water) an the screen started to glitch.

I turned the phone off right away. When I got home I opened up the screen just enough not to stress or detach any cables, placed the whole assembly in a container, added silica gel packets and rice around the phone all the while being careful not to get any rice in the phone. I did not disconnect, pull or tear any cables/connections. I sealed the container an waited 2 days.

Now the phone is fully functional, (shows up in itunes, turns on/off, vibrates, rings, answers calls, cameras work from testing it with another iphone an Facetime), BUT THE SCREEN IS BLACK. I tested the on/off slide action on the screen it works and I ruled out the brightness slide action control on the screen.

Please help... could it be corrosion on a cable connection? Does the phone need a new screen swap? Please help...Ill take you fly fishing :)

Answer this question I have this problem too

Skip the rice next time--your goal is to displace the water with alcohol, not let the water and fish scales actually dry on the components.

You DO want to pop off all those cables next time. Open that sucker up, scrub it with alcohol and a toothbrush.

In your case, the damage was probably done instantly. You will have corrosion on your LCD connector--most likely both side. You could start with a replacement screen, but you may also need to have your connector on the board reflowed as well---that's not a DIY fix, but do-able for competent microsolderers.

best of luck

I have replaced my screen, and it worked really well, however when I replaced the home button and had to take the screen off again to get the button on, I now have a black screen. the phone is a 5S and the button now seems to work, but the screen is black. I hear the phone working, just nothing on the screen. I opened it up again and checked all the connection twice. all good connection. still black screen HELP!
