ps3 won't play movie discs

I recently had to restore the system on my ps3...several times. It has been up and running fine now. I use it primarily to access internet, personal media servers, and that sort of thing.

Tonight, played a couple games on the ps3 and then thought to watch a movie but, while the disc inserts into the console, nothing happens after! I tried several different movies and games...same stuff.

i also recently added a 1080p hd tv.

suggestions or recommendations?
