Why does my netbook shut down after 2 seconds?

Hi,

I`d firstly like to say that I have read most of the other questions that relate to the above and I have tried the suggestions (alas) and am currently in the process of trying the following...(the actual problem is the netbook shutting down after just a second or two...no time to get into the BIOS before shutdown)

I have taken off the keyboard etc and have removed the touchpad surround so I have the motherboard and internals etc facing me...I did this in order to check the DC connector but all seems fine...I then connected the mains lead without the battery connected but no light came up..ie,no power...I then re-connected the battery and mains lead and I have a power light showing that it is connected...

What I would like to ask is does this mean that the motherboard is ok or could the motherboard still be the problem ?

Hope you can help...thanks,

Etiennette

I don't know how much memory you have, but if it's more then one dimm, Pull one and see if it boots...If not replace that dimm and take out the other and see if it reboots. If you have only one dimm, put the exsising dimm in the empty dimm slot.

Hope this helps....

it is failing the P.O.S.T (Power On Self-Test)

Your RAM may be faulty or there could be a short somewhere (Check all USB ports)

Or maybe you didn't discharge before taking it apart and killed something with ESD..

Could be anything. These netbooks are fairly cheap now, so you could easily replace it for one on eBay or something!
