I have replaced the battery 3 times

MacBook Pro 17" A1297 mid 2009

None of the 3 new batteries I have bought now work in my system. Do i need to reset something or anything on the logic board. And if so how?

You often need to reset the SMC also follow this Apple T/N: EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs.

What is the color of the MagSafe connector when you plug it in?

Hi Dan, The MagSafe started out green then amber with the battery charge icon showing,charging 0% then switched back to green with an x in the icon. the third stayed green with an x in the icon .I tried reseting the SMC no go.I checked the updates, the computer said it was up to date.
