No Water Unless I Hold Down Dispenser Button 2-3 Minutes!

Refrigerator ge side by side water quit working. took filter off put in the plug. In order to get water I have to loosen the plug as if it is air locked and it works for ten to fifteen minutes and then will only work if I hold the dispenser button down for 3-4 minutes. It is not frozen and there are no water restrictions.
