i want to replace the mic.

the mic. on my iphone 3g was not working when i got the phone and i want to repair it myself. can the mic. be replaced with out following the steps in the teardown and taking the phone completly apart?

Unfortunately, the mic is part of the dock connector. I don't think you can separate them without some serious intricate work. (step 16 shows how attached the mic is to the dock connector). Either way, you would definitely need to (at minimum) take the display assembly off to access it at all.

The good news is that the 3G is INFINITELY easier to take apart than the original version!
