internal display not working

i got a free iMac from from work and the display only works sometimes , as of late not at all .but the display out works every time .and i can't determin if its the lcd or its the gpu. the gpu does run a lil hot i have to turn the fan up or it gets to like 90 c .with fan turned up the card is around 55 to 60 c at idle normally . and i got 3 diagnostic led's on the board on 4th led is off . how do i go about testing the lcd to determine if its the bad part or gpu.

travis, your GPU also drives the external monitor. Since it works at all times, you can rule that out.

If you're able to get display out fine then the issue lies with the LCD panel. Unfortunately you're going to have to replace it. As for the heat though, I would blow out as much dust as you can from the inside while you have it open with canned air, and make sure you get the back vent behind the stand as well.
