Suddenly unresponsive, small visible dent on back

This iPad Air is almost 2 years old. I put in in a drawer for a few days. Took it out and it is compeletely unresponsive to touch. I have

- Reinstalled iOS8.3 from scratch

- Reset with power+home button

Even after a clean reinstall with no restore of backup it just is completely unresponsive to touch.

- I have not dropped it

- No liquid damage

Has anyone experienced this? Is there any fix other than go to Apple (who will charge me I think since it is out of warranty)

  1. UPDATE ##

I was wrong about the "no damage". Seems there is a small dent on the back. See enclosed picture where I have outlined the dent. Somebody has used it and put it back obviously. I don't care who did it though. I just wonder if anyone has an idea if this dent is in a critical place that could affect the touch scree. The home button seems to work.

If it is under warranty then i would suggest bringing it to apple. If not then a local repair tech with a good reputation im sure they can sort this issue out for you as more than likely it is not a software issue as you have done a full factory restore which leaves only hardware.

Here are some trouble shooting steps.

- When the iPad Air is off, use a damp microfiber cloth to clean the screen gently.

- If there’s a screen protector on your iPad Air it could be the culprit.

- Try pressing the Home button three times or check in Settings > General > Accessibility and make sure that VoiceOver isn’t turned on.

I have done all the things you mention. The Home button is unresponsive so there is no response to any click or touch. It is definitely a hardware issue. The iPad is out of warranty (2 years) but I will check with an Apple store. If I knew for sure it was the digitizer I could replace it. But since it also is the home button I suspect it is a logic board issue.

I took this to an Apple store and they said there was a small dent in it so that was the reason and they would not replace it for free. The dent is just to the right of the Apple logo on the back. Everything is working fine except that it is totally unresponsive to touch.

I have to say, I have the same exact problem. Tiniest dent, the stupid thing can't turn on.

I had to pay apple for a replacement unit. Too bad I was not able to fix it.
