For the 1st generation Nexus 7 (front facing camera), after you pop off the back cover by using a plastic pry tool, you will see a rectangular battery with black taped edges. All you need to do is use the same plastic pry tool to gently pop the battery up and out of its housing and gently disconnect it from the board. After that its just installing the new battery using the same steps in reverse.

For the 2nd gen Nexus 7 you remove the back cover in the same manner as you would the 1st generation however the 2nd gen maybe harder to get started opening so be patient and be careful. After opening the back cover you will need to disconnect the battery, that will be a black connection in the corner of the battery. There will be two flex cables and four screws that you will need to remove as well. The first flex cable will be wider and held in place with a jaw clip which you can easily pop open with your pry tool. The last flex cable will have tape covering the connection, all you need to do is peal back the tape (not fully removing the tape from the device) and lift up the cable up to disconnect. Once the cables and screws are removed the battery housing can now be removed safely. the metal housing is glue onto the battery with some pretty strong stuff how ever you can pry it apart. Try not to use too much force so as not to warp the metal housing. Once that is done just put in the new battery into the housing and repeat the steps in reverse to finish installation.
