Hi there!
I have a imac, which just shows black screen when i power it on. I can hear the fans running and the apple startup sound. When i connect a external it works great with picture on the screen. The imac haven't been on for a few months and suddenly a day i power it on i discover this failure (worked great before)
What could be the reason for this?

Try this - with a flashlight shine it at the display at an angle can you see a faint image of your desktop and the icons it has on it? If you do then your problem is the LED driver board has died so your displays backlights are not working.
