Earpiece with no audio... Board problem

Hi there

I had just got my iPhone 5 16gb as a gift from USA

BUT unfortunately it got no service warranty

Few days after I had an error that earpiece stop working

I asked for help from some local service center specialized in Apple products

He told me that isn't earpiece or it's cable problem

It is audio ic problem which he considered it unrepairable

Did he says right ??

Is iPhone board could sold alone as spare part ?

Would I lose my data if I did change the board ??

Thanks a lot

Hello,

First off, does the front camera and/or proximity sensor work? those are also on the same cable at the ear piece. To test the proximity sensor would be to make a call and put your hand over the spot right above the ear piece. If the screen goes black then it works if it doesnt then there is something wrong with that cable. Another thing ive seen if is the phone thinks there are head phones plugged in it wont use the ear piece. That can be checked buy turning the volume up and down. When the pop up for the volume level comes itll say if head phones are plugged in or not. If it does then you would try cleaning the headphone jack, or you might have to replace that cable instead. The ear piece or headphone jack cable are very easy to do.

To answer you other questions, yes you could replace the board, but that is close to the same cost as another phone. You would lose all your data as well unless you did icloud for a backup and restore. I would suggest checking everything else out first before considering replacing the board.

Thank you for your reply

Proximity sensor check OK

front camera check OK

headphone jack check OK

The service center I went to told me that he tried to replace both the earpiece and the flat cable but the error remains so he figured out it is on board problem

Would you recommend to try again myself using the above guides ??

I do not think it would hurt to atleast try replacing them to make sure. the parts are rather inexpensive. its worth a shot, if the pro still shows that the ear piece doesnt work then something on the board would have to be damaged.
