Are you situated at a high altitude above sea level? I know Plasmas of yesterday had a lot of issues with high altitudes (hums, flickers, etc) due to the atmospheric pressure difference? If not, then it's simply defective.

Is there a method to the madness? See if it is blinking a specific number of times and then repeating. This could be up to 10 blinks per set. This is a diagnostic mode to tell you what's wrong with many of the Plasma TV's. Also on the back of the TV you will see vents for the fans. If the unit overheats it will shut down. Use some canned air and blow these ports and related fans out. Also try different input sources such as cable then a DVD or VCR in S video port or composite port VS a cable port.

never checked on specific number of times. thought it was a loose wire so hit on side of tv with palm of hand and blinking stops momentary until you sit back down and then starts up again took back off looking for loose wires found none. checked with dvd, vcr and still blinks. used 2 cans of air to blow out dust not much dust found. sometimes if I hit the tv hard with hand on side it stops blinking for about 15 minutes.

also tv is cool when when the blinking is the worst.

Sounds like a blown capacitor. Perform a tear down of the unit and find the culprit. Cheap fix and very common.
