Why is my MacBook Pro 17" shutting down during start up?

I have a MacBook Pro 17" 2009 Model Number A1297,

I bought this MacBook under the impression it needed the battery replaced because the guy said it had an X over the battery icon. So I bought a new battery and put it in, now during start up it gets about 1/3 of the way done loading the OS and goes dead. (That's when the MagSafe light is amber)

When you wait 10-15 mins (until the MagSafe light turns green) It boots up just fine and runs the OS, but there is a black X over the battery. It says "No Battery Available". I have also reset the SMC and PRAM a few times. I also noticed, if you take the battery out, it boots up and runs the OS with no problems.

Side Note: The battery indicator on the left hand side of the machine, will not work.

So is it a bad battery or is the logic bored going bad?

Thank you for the help everyone!

ifference is small but significant: Plug the power back in first, then the battery. (wait for the green light first) Allow the battery to fully charge then let us know if you still get the black X.

Next try this:

If the computer is on, turn it off.

Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.

Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.

Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.

Press the Power button to restart the computer.

So I plugged in the MagSafe and right away it turned green. Plugged in the battery and the MagSafe light turned amber, waited until the light turned green and pushed the power button. After the OS loaded and and got into the desktop, I still had a black "X" over the battery.

So I tried the next step. Turned it off, removed the AC power and battery. Then I held down the power button for 5 secs, reconnected the battery and the AC power. Waited for the light to turn green and pushed the power button. Once the OS loaded and I was at the desktop, I still had that stupid black "X" over the battery.

Both times I tried what you said to do, it says "No Battery Available". Would the battery indicator not working have anything to do with this problem or is it not working because the battery is not?

Thanks again

I replaced the blue tooth and it worked. I took to apple store and the guy said all working except blue tooth and thats not the like for your car or phone.
