Increase RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB on 2006 MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro 2006 15 inch Intel Core Duo...

This machine is unable to upgrade FireFox or Safari and can't run Google Chrome. Will upgrading from 1 GB to 2 GB of RAM allow me to upgrade web browsers? I would also like to purchase a newer operating system if possible. It currently has Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Thank you so much for your help with this. So, adding another GB of RAM will not allow me to update Safari or use any version of Firefox or Chrome? I am not knowledgeable on OpenCL, but looked it up and it seems to have something to do with graphics so that makes sense as I cannot use PicMonkey (online photo editor) either. Should I just buy another Mac? Again, thanks for your help!

What do the browsers tell you when you try to install them?
