iPhone 5 won't respond after water damage, teardown & screen replace

Perfume bottle burst in girlfriends handbag about a year ago and iPhone got a good soaking. She got it too work with the old bag of rice treatment, but the screen was permanently damaged.

Last week I inherited said iPhone which is still working perfectly minus corroded volume buttons and aforementioned screen. After scolding her for never doing a proper clean and dry of the phone, I take it upon myself to carry out screen repair.

I fully dissasemble the phone cleaning all the components with 99.7% alcohol. After they are dry I reassemble phone complete with new screen.

Moment of truth and I try to turn phone on, but nothing. No picture, no sound, no vibration. It doesn't seem to be charging but but with no physical feedback how can I one tell? Phone is a brick.

Open phone up again, check connections, no missing screws. Still no response from the phone.

So where do I start? Only ideas I have is to dissasemble and try again? And maybe by myself a decent multimeter, any suggestions?

Any advice greatly appreciated and will make me look less of an idiot for not just settling for a iPhone with a broken screen...

Check your work, maybe flex cables are not perfectly attached to motherboard connectors. Liquid damage, may have been completed by trying to fix the iPhone at this late date. (Liquid damage makes solder joints very fragile). Maybe battery finally failed. Disconnect battery and connect iPhone to power, you should get minimal response from iPhone at least, if battery problem.

Charged it overnight, then did a complete teardown and resemble of the phone, and finally got some response. At first the screen didn't fully work, squares of picture where missing, but after the 4th attempt at disconnecting and reconnecting the screen cables it's seems to be fine. The touchscreen seems to freak out at decreasing intervals, was every few seconds this morning now at least 30 mins before it will constantly type the letter 'y' or notification centre with pop up and down.

There is one other serious problem. The phone constantly restarts, this happens most often when recharging. Also the battery indicator will stick at 100% and not change until after a hard reset where it can drop right down to 1%. I'm thinking this is purely a battery issue so might be best buying a new battery? It did bear the brunt of the water damage. What else might be causing the constant restarting?
