Ear phones broken in ipad port

My headphones broke off into the port of the ipad and I do not have a clue on how to get it out. I have tried tweezers but I can't grip it. Any ideas?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

It all depends on where it broke off. Unfortunately plugs like this both are pretty smooth, and are gripped tightly by the ipad.

If there's still a small part protruding from the ipad, there are a few tricks you can try, but the only sure fire way is to open up the ipad and try to remove from the back of the port (which in itself isn't that easy, since in all likelihood it's a closed component)

First of all, if a small piece still sticks out: I've had some successes in the past with a simple bit of string (preferably a very thin, slightly rough yet strong cotton like used in sowing). Wind it a couple of times tightly around the protruding bit, making sure each wind ends up below the last one. This way the coils pull themselves deeper into the port. After you feel you have a solid grip, gently try to pull out the plug. Have pliers nearby for when it comes out so you can switch grips as soon as you can.

If this fails, a good glue might be your best friend, that is, if you still have the other part of the plug. Carefully glue the other part back on , without gluing it to the port (yes, this is tricky, and glueing it to the port might be the end of the line, so use it as a last resort!) then again, gently try to pull the plug out. Apply the force in a direct line, so the bind will be at its strongest.

Both methods can be used together as well, and I've had quite some successes with broken off parts with both of them. If these fail, opening up the ipad will be the next step.

Good luck!
