After logging in, I have a black screen with just a mouse.

I have a Acer Aspire V5 571p. After the acer logo appears as normal, the login screen comes up as normal. However, after logging in I just a lit black screen with a working mouse. Before the first time this happened, my laptop got very heated and I had switch it off by the power button. Think this might have something to do with it. Is there anything I can do to get it working again?

Options

Try running your Windows in safe mode w/Network. Depending on the Version you'll have to do it differently. Windows 7 press F8 at during start-up. Windows 8 link below

After you get into safe mode, open up your device manager and see if any drivers need updated. Also find a Hardware Diagnostic program if there is not one already on the PC. Run the Diagnostics tool, if its a hardware issue it will tell you.
