Can't hear my phone calls. How to fix it?

Hello guys.

I live in Ukraine. My friend from California bought iphone 6 and brought it to me, so have no possibility to return it back to Apple, we haven't got autorized apple distributors.

After unboxing I recovered it with my iphone 5s backup . And tried to make a call, all I heard was Nothing. Another person always hear me well but I don't hear anything even if I switch to the speaker and headphones as well.

I tried to use skype. it works I do hear everything. So made a conclusion that my earpiece works as well as speakerphone, because it works in youtube app and etc.

What I've already tried:

- Restore it from iTunes (3 times)

- Tried another sim card of another carrier.

- My sim card works in iphone 5s, checked all the problems might be related to carrier.

- Chatted with Apple support (2 consultants, 1 supervisor, all options exhausted)

I found smth related to my question here I can't hear my phone calls unless I put it on speaker., but in my situation speakerphone doesn't work also while calling and I'm sure my earpiece is not broken, it's some kinda software bug, that makes my phone a brick

Maybe smb have faced with such issue and can suggest something valuable,

thank you

p.s. sorry for my English

iPhone 6 can't hear caller issue is more common then you think. There are a lot of different causes for it.

I assume you took the plastic cover off? I have seen many cases where the issue of not being able to hear is because the person hasn't taken the film off the new phone.

Try to plug in some headphones and take them out, it might correct the issue.

Put some pressure to where the ear piece is connected, the connection might have gotten loose.

Check to see if blue tooth is connected. Turn it off.

Do a hard restore without the sim card being in the iphone 6.

Make sure ios is updated.

Is this iPhone unlocked? As in can you put any carrier on it? It might be for a specific carrier like AT&T or Verizon.

This iPhone 6 might not be compatible with your carrier as it is from America.

I am laughing at myself right now. I thought the original film was screen protector. No wonder my new iphone had this problem. I am a lady, I admit.

Go to voicemail. Put on speakerphone. Rapidly tap mute and speakerphone about 10 times. This worked for me when nothing else would.

It works , you can call any number by the way. I called my house phone

Thank you for this post Dwayne, that worked for me as well! A bit unnerving that the solution is about as high tech as waving a dead chicken over my head. ;)

by

Thank you! I was skeptical, but it worked. I echo Rick's comment regarding the "high-tech "solution.

There is a repair issue, that covers this. However this appears to be some kind of software thing, and possibly related to carriers. Like just previously stated. You're using an overseas carrier, where this phone was intended for an American carrier

I forgot just how far your answers have come recently. What repair issue? Can you get a bit more nebulous?

by

I don't...I don't get it @mayer. What I was probably saying is front camera flex. What I was getting at here, I think I was wrong. Cause aren't iPhone carrier locked in the states, but weren't they meant to be used internationally? It's so confusing with apples constant changing rules

by

@imedic congratulations, you got more nebulous. I'm sure glad you give better answers today ;-)

by

I agree @mayer. My answers were so bad. Now I'm pulling a you, and I'm all "don't you think you should post a link with that answer?"

I tried everything listed above. Nothing worked. So out of desperation I literally ran the tip of my tongue across the ear speaker several times. Then I dried it on my shirt and blew in it a couple times. Worked!!

Solved mine by sucking on the earpiece. Crazy but it was recommended on line for iPhone 4, so I tried it on my iPhone 6, and it worked. I felt rediculous, but it worked like a charm.

Try going to settings/Cellular. Then from there Enable LTE to Voice & Data. Not to sure if that will help but it cleared up the same problem I had with my 6. I live in the U.S though..

Long shot - is the protective front plastic still on the device? If so, it would hinder the volume on the headset speaker.

Right on! After a 1 1/2 days of trying to get my new Iphone 6s to work-at Sprint and Apple and Sprint eventually giving me a new Iphone 6s, I dreaded having to go back to the store. I thought I had another lemon. Your fix worked like a charm.

Don't waste your time on all of the other stuff. None of that stuff up there worked. I saw a comment on another forum about sucking on the headphone jack and tried it. I burst out laughing because it was the only thing that actually worked, when I initially thought it was a joke. Lol. Thank you so much!

I have repaired two iPhone 6 units hear with the same problem. The ear speaker has small connectors that touch a ribbon type cable. It is possible one of the screws on the shield backed out and the connection isn't stable.

To open the iPhone 6 is quite easy if you utilize a iSesamo or iSclack from iFixit. You would just need a pentalobe screwdriver as well as a Phillips and a nylon spudger. Follow the iFixit guide on replacing the digital display on the iPhone 6 and when you have removed the battery cable shield and disconnected the battery and have moved the emi shield and have disconnected the display cables you will be able to access the shield covering the ear speaker. It has 3 screws holding it in, they are Phillips type, check first to see if they are snug(tight) if not that could be the issue.

Just follow the iFixit guide from there. If it still isn't working please contact me, I will gladly help via online if I can.

Easy fix take a toothbrush and clean the ear phone. A toothbrush will brush away the ear wax that has built up blocking the air from moving in and out.

In settings/Cellular I disabled Cellular and LTE then enabled them again, then I used a compressed-gas duster for electonics such as keyboards on my ear speaker and headphone jack. Problem was resolved. I dont know if it was one thing in particular that did the trick or it was all of the above. However, my ear speaker issue was resolved.

I am having a similar issue with my phone. I can't hear other people when I try to use the ear speaker, however they can hear me talking. My speaker phone works fine. On top of this, my front camera isn't functioning, as it won't open and causes the app to freeze. I ordered a new front camera flex cable, as this is what I diagnosed the issue to be. I put another screen (that has a different flex cable assembly) onto my logic board and the earpiece and camera worked fine. To be sure, I even put my ear speaker into this different assembly and it worked on my phone. I get the parts later this week, and will post again with the results of my repair.

I pressed an ear bud in the ear piece not expecting it to fix it But! It did!! It looked clean but I still did it and sounds come back , I think I may have pressed the speaker and got connection again from loose speaker wires perhaps. See if it goes dead again Cheers rowefred for your comment from 10/14/2016 lols 14?

My phone did the exact same thing! Mine is a Iphone 6+ if your phone doesn't have the newest update update it or if it does just restart it I did that and it worked like it as brand new. Try that or even if that doesn't work take it to your nearest apple store. - :)))

Got this same issue and brought my phone to the apple store several hours ago. Tech can't resolve the issue so he gave me a new iPhone 6 plus but I found out after restoring from icloud that the problem still persists. Issue was resolved by resetting the phone again and not restoring from icloud but setting as a new iPhone. At last I could receive and place calls again by not pressing the speakerphone. Problem is I now have to install all my apps manually.

It's simple. Just clean your earphone port and the tiny speaker at the base. Anything could have blocked or interfered to deceive your phone that there is an earphone plugged in. I just solved mine now.

by

My issue is exactly like yours. I have tried 4 phones, and all exhibit the same problem once I restore from my backup. I don't care about the apps, but I cannot lose my contacts and other data. I have to imagine it is a combination of the newest ios update and carrier update, but cannot figure out how to downgrade them.

I switched on/off a few times, didn't work.

Thereafter I switched off, removed the SIM card, waited for a few seconds and put it back.

Now it is working. Hope it will stay!
