How do I stop the agitator after the cycle is done?

After the selected program (cycle) is finished and the machine stops, a new program is selected, we pull the knob to start the cycle, and the agitator comes on without filling the water. It won't allow a new program (cycle) to begin.

The machine sat overnight and it allowed us to use it again. But, after one wash load, it did the same thing.
