How to Install a new Hardrive and switch the Data on it?

Hey,

I heard about the WD Scorpio Blue 1 TB harddrive. Can I put this one in my MacBook Pro 15" 2.66 GHz Mid 2009?

And if yes, what is the best way to get all my stuff from my current harddrive to the new one?

Thank you!

The larger drive will fit. 1.0TB WD Scorpio Blue 5200RPM SATA *12.5mm* HD with Advanced Format Technology - Fits all Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro 'Unibody' Models (13/15/17"), MacBook Pro 'pre-unibody' 17"

Please refer to this question: changing to wd 1tb hdd

You'll need someway to hook the drive up to transfer your data. For that an external enclosure such as: [linked product missing or disabled: IF107-055]

For an external adapter, this one works well for me: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20T...

Now that the drive is hooked up you can use something like SuperDuper to clone the old drive: http://www.shirt-pocket.com/superduper/s...

Back when I wrote this, these 1TB drives were 12.5mm and my advice to check was to use a deck of cards to be sure. Well, this is no longer valid with Advanced Format drives.

The new Advanced Format drives are often 9.5mm these days now, because of the 4K per sector formatting scheme. If you find one in this form factor it is very possible now. With the old 12.5mm drives, you still need to check to be sure this will work.

In short the AF 1TB drives should be fine in this machine. It's the old format drives that pose a problem.
