Drum will not rotate at all.

My washer does not rotate the drum either in wash or spin modes. Washer fills, and drains through the cycles fine; just no drum rotation at all.

I have seen no error codes. I have run the Diagnostics and it goes through C:00 through C:08. But at C:04, C:07 and C:08, the drum does nothing (it is supposed to rotate) during those steps.

I also cleaned the filter trap for good measure. It had only a little debris; not clogged at all.

Any suggestions as to what my problem could be with the washer?

Thanks!

This is for a Kenmore Elite HE3 Front Loading washer. I checked the resistance of the motor across pins 1-2, 1-3 & 2-3 and results were 6.x ohms. I disconnected and reconnected all connections to the motor and motor control units. The motor control unit and motor have no visible signs of distress. The washer cycles completely through the diagnostic procedure without a failure code, but the drum does not rotate/agitate/spin. It fills with cold and hot water and drains when it is supposed to, but no drum action. I would like to rule out motor, the motor control board or other component before sourcing an expensive replacement part. Thanks for the assistance!

Drum turns freely by hand. Belt is fine. Door switch is fine. There is no transmission, only the motor.

Motor Coupling

If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission.

Drive Belt

If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer won't spin the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Drive Motor

If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.

Stator Assembly

If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity per the wiring diagram with the machine. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Rotor Assembly

If the washer won't spin or agitate the rotor assembly might be bad or damaged. The rotor is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the rotor fails or is damaged the washer might not spin or agitate. Check the rotor for damaged magnets or other defects.

Door Latch

If the washer won't spin or agitate the door latch should be checked. The door latch can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly

If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board

If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.
