iPhone can't restore or boot

This is a 2G 8 GB iPhone. The phone would not turn on one morning. It is either in Restore Mode or will occasionally show the battery in the red with the lightning bolt underneath. I have tried restoring the phone (including using DFU mode), but it can't complete the process giving one the many 1600 "Unknown Errors." The phone was Jailbroke previously, but not sure of the Jailbreake that was used.

many different 16xx errors or many 1600 errors ?

i think the battery died - thats why it does not power on, it only charges sometimes the red battery and if you get a 1611 error - the battery is to low (but there are other problems too - so the 1611 must not be the only code when the battery is empty

if you have a multimeter, check the voltage of the battery - i could bet it's something around or less than 3v
