Will a dual hard drive work with SSD as primary

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 with 3Gb/s SATA to the optical bay.

Can I insert a new SSD in the primary slot and place the original hard drive in the optical bay?

And can you recommend a SSD with a size of 120/128 GB..? I was thinking of the crucial mx100 or m550.

Will this give a performance boost to the Mac? I will double the RAM from 4 to 8 GB at the same time.

Hope that someone can answer this.

BR, Christoffer

That will work. Just make sure the new drive is backward compatible to 3 Gb/s as most are 6 Gb/s. Here's a kit that will work for you or just pick what you need: [linked product missing or disabled: IF107-123-2]

Thanks! I have ordered a Crucial MX100 128 GB and will try to make it the primary and then the optical bay for the old HDD.
