iMac HDD keeps ejecting at startup

Hi,

I followed the IFIXIT guide to install a SSD and run 2 drives, had no problems, all went smoothly, machine back up and running, except now 3-4 months on, my iMac keeps ejecting my HDD and I can't figure out why. It will tell me the drive I inserted is not readable, however when it is mounted and I run Disk Utility it says the drive is fine.

Has anyone had this or know of a way to stop it happening.

Thanks in advance

It sounds like you have a corruption of some sort. See if you can create a bootable USB thumb drive or external HD which you can restart your system under.

Then booting up with this external drive you should be able to run Disk Utility from it and test out your systems drives. Start by repairing the permissions on all of the drives (partitions) make sure you can run though a few times without errors. If you seem stuck isolate the file and if not a system file copy it off delete the original (run trash) then copy back the file and run repair permissions again. Then do the disk repair.

You may find this still isn't fixing things. Then you'll need to try a better tool like: Drive Genius. As the bTree tables need defragmenting.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

Thanks for the response Dan, I apologise though, I haven't been clear, the SSD is now my boot up drive and is running like a charm.

The HDD is acting like a storage drive and keeps ejecting itself. I have run disk utility on it but it isn't showing any faults!

I will look into Drive Genius though.

Really appreciate your help
