Phone freezes then shuts off and reboots then repeats the cycle.

I have been dealing with this issue for a while, but only now has it become a problem that makes the device unusable. My Verizon Galaxy S5 would freeze and I would have to take out the battery, wait a minute, then put it back in and turn it on which made the device work again until it happened again. About a week ago my phone froze and I tried this process again only to find the phone froze again and again until it became unusable. Occasionally the phone won't turn on at all.

To paraphrase my current problem: my Galaxy S5 only allows use for a few seconds before freezing.

i believe you may need to replace your power button/battery cover. it may click when pressed, but a host of problems, physical or electronical, could have corrupted something.
