Why isn't my iPhone 5 starting?

Hi

I'm having this problem from over one year. My power charger (the original one) got so used up that i bot another one....but it was fake. I didn'n know that at the moment, only when my phone started to show some problems i realised i made a big mistake. I bot a new, original one (lightning cable)(charger) and it was fine all again. Untill inrun out of juice. My battery, over one night, got empty. In the morning, when i tried to charge it again, it was dead. For real. When i took it to the service they told me that a chip on the processor got burn, because the fake charger didn't offer the ammount of voltage it required. So the only way to save it is to change the whole processor, thing that in all my country is taboo. Nobody know how. It is to risky etc. I am sure that the chip un the A6 is burned because one guy took my battery, put it inside another iphone 5, charge it to 100% and when back in my phone it didn't start. Then he show me the chip and indeed it was fried. The thing is that it's glued to the processor. I'm living in Romania so i don't got the chance to send it to you guys, in the near future though. I got two questions: if I, somehow, charge it, and while charging I plug in another charger through the jack it will somehow give it the boost necessary to see the light againg or burn it whole? And last. How much is a new processor? That if there are some to sale? I apologize for my poor english. I'm looking forward for your reply. With respect Alexander.

There is a guy on youtube that repaired the chip. Easy and fast. But if the chip is burned (because I was using wrong voltage) is there any chance to repair it. I mean...he was taking the black stuff off the chip and it was fine...I am trying to find any solution to repair...imagine that nobody here knows how to remove the A6 or the U2. The only way is to change the whole mother board...but that will cost me like half the price of an iphone 5s. So just to be sure before i'll go and sell it by pieces. If the U2 chip is gone, so is the A6? Thanks!

You were looking at Ashfaq in Pakistan. It is straightforward to get a replacement chip from China. Finding someone who can do it that is not him? Tough. I'm going to try another one this week. I'll post back if that one inspires me to take some on as repair, but I doubt it!

For what it's worth--nobody over here in the US is replacing the U2 chip either. It is just too much work for what the phone is worth. There is a place in the UK that is doing it, and of course Ashfaq in Pakistan is a whiz.

Every now and then I get motivated to give it a shot. I can get it off okay, and sometimes get the new chip back on :)

Your diagnosis sounds absolutely correct. And to answer your other question, NO, if your phone won't start with a known good battery, then there is no "boost" that can help. A dead chip is a dead chip.

FYI--David James, the U2 chip is kind of glued to the A6 in a way ---the black underfill encapsulates them both, and this is part of why it is hard to remove U2 without damaging A6

Bummer :(

i thought he meant the processor is glued to the logic board, which would make removing/replace much easier

Someone does it here for $70-$80 wholesale. I've had it replaced a couple of times and it works. I examined it afterwards, it was neat work with the metal plate re-soldered in placed. You could tell it was re-worked only after removing the plate because of the missing black resin around it, and the markings used to indicate the original position.

Rany, where are you at? Do you have the contact info for the person that does this repair? I have been looking for someone to replace this chip for a while now.

Thanks

Beirut, Lebanon (that's in the Middle East). Look at my profile.

If you're interested in having the phone fixed here, you can contact me and I'll explain how it can be shipped from our USA procurement office to Beirut, then back to you, with the cost.

Never heard of this happening, sadly it's not glued to the processor although I wish it was as it would make repairing every piece on the phone a doddle. It may be a long shot but have you tried holding the power and home button for 15 seconds to reset the phone?
