How do I fix the voice control glich?!

I have had my ipod for at least 3 years and I have put up with voice control. But now I want to use an app and the annoying blue voice control screen shows up and it won't cancel sometimes and it glitches out of it! Then it goes to the search ipod screen and then to the home screen and it does that for a minute and then i try to lock the screen (I broke the lock button) and voice control comes off and on and I didnt say any thing or touch it to make it do that! And on top of that it always says connect to iTunes when I plug it in after it dies! (The battery always says 20% battery left and it dies 3 secs later) Well I back it up to iTunes then it says it's fully backed up but it still gliches! HELP!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!

When I see something like this, I always rule out hardware first before going to the trouble of software restores. In general, if you attempt a software restore on a phone with a hardware issue, it can fail and be a brick.

This is home button dirt.

Follow the guide to open the iPod. Clean it out, replace the home flex. While you're at it, replace the battery.
