Have you taken the phone to pieces at all or is there any gaps between the case and the bezel?

The home button actually makes contact with 2 pins on the dock assembly, so if you're pressing hard it's likely there is an increased gap between the two - perhaps you didn't seat the components properly after it was disassembled. Alternatively, take it to pieces and clean the contacts both on the rear end of the screen and on the dock assembly.

Hope this helps!

You might want to check first to see if there actually is a guide before giving such a canned answer.

Why would I vote the question down? There's nothing wrong with it. They asked a specific hardware-related question.

There's a guide too so what's up?

I don't see where we have a guide to replace the Home button on our IPhone 3g Device Page. Could you update your answer to include a link to the guide to help Nazeer out? Alternatively, if there's another guide that will work, could you reference that guide and explain what step Nazeer would need to follow it until?
