Upgrade IO Module to 661-8312 for HDMI 2.0, 4K/60p

Hi,

I'm not sure whether this is possible, but I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro Retina with Nvidia 650M graphics card. I've seen people connect 4K monitors to the Thunderbolt or HDMI ports and it's worked at 30Hz. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried (or could try) upgrading the right IO module to the 661-8312 (from the 2014 model) to support HDMI 2.0 and 4K at 60Hz? It's just a thought, probably not possible but just wanted to ask.

Thanks

Karl

Karl, Someone has to take the plunge to check it out ;-}

Are you game? I don't think anyone has tried. You could try talking to a genius at an Apple Store if they know if it is even possible.

Sadly, I don't have a system to even try.

It's easy enough to swap out, just don't want to shell out $150 if it's not going to work. Hopefully there's someone out there in a repair shop that could try.
