There are no processor upgrade cards that I know of. I would use TechTool Pro and defragment my files then optimize the volume. The highest system I would use on this is 10.4. Make sure you have at least 10% free space on the drive.

Consider a 7200 RPM internal ATA Hard Drive. Do a web search for "Internal ATA Hard Drive 7200 RPM". The Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB 7200 is about $50.

Since it is only showing 256 MB You may have a dead RAM port or gotten the wrong RAM. First reseat the RAM. Then remove both chips and try the 256 in both slots. Do the same for the 1 MB chip. By now you know if you have bad RAM or a bad port.

I recently wiped out the hard drive, reinstalled Tiger 10.4.11 from original disc, installed iLife 08, and I have 35 Gigs of space available out of the total 80 on the hard drive. I only use iLife programs and Microsoft office. I replaced one of the 256 memory sticks with 1 gig stick. Will replacing the other one help that much?

You were right. I have a bad RAM slot. Is there anything I can do with it? What's the most RAM I can use in my 1 good slot?

"about this mac" shows 256 MB for memory. I used to have 2 of those cards, but recently replaced one of them with a 1gig card. why doesn't it show up?
