Hello,

Is it possible to have 2 GB in one slot, and 4 GB in the other, or do the slot have to have the same capacity (2x2 or 2x4)?

Thank you for your answer

To start with here's a spec sheet on your system: HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC

Here's HP's memory upgrade guide for your system: Memory Modules User Guide. You'll need the following:

  • DDR2 SDRAM, 800 MHz 1024/2048/4096 MB SODIMMs

Total memory supported = 8GB

@titifu,

You can use any combination up to a maximum of 8GB made up of 1GB, 2GB and 4GB modules as long as they are all DDR2 800MHz (PC2-6400).

The options are 1GB = 1+0, 2GB = 2+0, 3GB = 1+2, 4GB = 4+0 or 2+2, 5GB = 1+4, 6GB = 2+4 and 8GB = 4+4.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop.

Go to p.57 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the memory modules
