Lid latch will not hold

The two lid latches on my PowerBook G4 17" Aluminum 1.67 GHz will no longer hold the lid close. The screen (top) will pop open instead of holding close, turning the computer back on from the lid closing sleep mode. What can be done to correct?

The two latches appear to be functioning. They drop down just as the lid is about to close, but there seems to be too much "spring' tension to open the lid/screen, so the latches will not hold the lid shut.

Options

If you follow the guide you may be able to repair the latch... if not it can be replaced.

I had look for a guide to repair the latch and could not find it. Did not see a listing in parts for the latch except the option to buy the lower case at a price way too high given the age of the computer. Where do I find latch repair instructions, specifically?
