failed charge port repair; Next options?

I replaced the failed charging port of my Nexus 4 using a brand new part, which I think is called the daughterboard. It contained the plug socket for the charger cable on a flat circuit board with a ribbon connector. After replacing it, I am still not able to charge my phone by plugging into the charger port. I have tried many micro usb cables and charging adapters to rule that problem out. I can charge the phone on a wireless charger, but not by plugging into the charging port. The charging port had died over a couple day time period. One day, I found that it was finicky about how I plugged in the cable, and as I was plugging it in, I felt the charger cable plug become hot and I smelled hot electrical burning coming from the plugged-in cable at the phone's charger port socket. I unplugged. I powered off. Afterward, each time I plugged in the charger cable, it became hot at the phone plug in socket. I stopped using the plug and instead began to use a wireless charger. But the battery seemed to deplete faster. I bought a new charger port part -- the whole ribbon that contains the charger port and the microphone, too, I believe. After installing it and reinstalling it three times, I have no luck with getting the charging port to work. Yes, I did remove theprotective film on the back of the new charging port part. I ruled out that potential error. So I am wondering if when the cable heated up, did it fry something somewhere other than on the new charge port circuit board that I could try replacing? If the battery charges through wireless charging, I do not think I fried the battery or its plug connection. Ideas on what to fix next?
