iFixit's iPhone 5 battery replacement kit

After 2 years, the battery of my iPhone 5 is now dying. I will have to charge the phone every one or two hours. Sad and annoying. So I'm thinking of a battery replacement from iFixit.

But I really need an answer to this question: is the iPhone 5 battery sold on iFixit genuine? or OEM part? or aftermarket? or what?

Thank you guys very much!

OEM is a fun term that is very often misused in this field. Some shops resort to putting OEM in quotation marks for legal purposes. Original Equipment Manufacturer parts are either going to be used, refurbished, or very rarely ever truly OEM. However, this does not mean that the quality is the same. There are different terms used to identify quality, such as copy grade, A/B/C grade, OEM Quality, and so forth. I guarantee you that the battery IFixIt sells will be much higher quality than an ebay part or a part from another supplier such as Batteries Plus (Rayovac...ugh.)

Plus, if you order from IFixIt, you have more of a guarantee/warranty, and people willing to help you through your repairs, albeit remotely. Try getting that kind of service at a local battery swap shop :)

Good luck!

Honestly I'm just quite hesitant of replacing the battery with one from any unknown source. As you said, there are too many 'grades' regarding battery's quality. I've heard too many stories about battery overheating and even explosion, which is not fun at all. Thank you for your information though.

It may be too late but after changing my iPhone 5 battery purchased from iFixIt made no difference in battery life. It's like I didn't change it at all.

Imrmuckle, that means that the reason for your bad battery performance lies more likely on your device and not the battery :)

I would like to add some info here. I just installed an iFixit battery in an iPhone 5 and plugged the thing into iBackupbot in order to see the battery cycle count.

Answer: Cycle count = 1

Wow! Way to go iFixit.
