Screen fades or goes black. Pressing left of trackpad brings it back?

Hi!

I have an iBook G3 that works great except for one problem. Every now and again the screen seems to fade or dim, sometimes it fades right to black, sometimes it stays bright.

When I put pressure on the left side of the track pad it stays bright and doesn't fade. What are the possible causes of this and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks...looks like a big job for a noobie, but I think I will give it a try....maybe even change out that cable while i'm in there!

Sounds like you may be putting pressure on the display data cable. I would use this guide: iBook G3 12" Display Replacement

and take a look at step 41. I would re-seat the data cable and examine it for problems.

It probably is your video chip. What happens is the solder lifts and causes what you are experiencing. You have to reseat the soldier around this chip or put pressure on the chip. Google it for answers. There is a french site that gives a solution
