Why does my iMac shut down randomly?

After hours of usage (mainly photoshop), my imac shuts down on its own. No sound, no warning, as though someone turned off the mains. Have to allow it half an hour or so before it will boot up again, however it will shut down again fairly quickly by this time. If I let it rest a day or 2, I can get hours of usage before the same thing happens again.

Pretty much did all the troubleshooting I can, as well as a clean install but problem still persists. Do I need to replace the power supply?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Joel, "as though someone turned off the mains. " sounds like a bad PSU. If there is any chance you have any kind of warranty, I'd use that first before trying to fix it yourself. If you do want to tackle it yourself, use this guide. Hope this helps, good luck.

Unfortunately no warranty. I can't find the PSU for 2546 in the site though. Are you sold out?

Joel, to answer that question, you'd have to contact the sales staff at ifixit. I am just a computer user like you and have no direct connection to the sales at ifixit.
