Touch ID working, home button not after battery replacement

I replaced my battery and my home button has stopped working. My Touch ID, however, still works.

Any recommendations?

This is an interesting problem. The only way I could see this happening is if there was a micro tear somewhere along the home button flex where the it connects to the sensor. I have not encountered this issue myself, so I unfortunately cannot offer advice beyond the basics:

Remove the display assembly again and check the flex for any issues, make sure there is nothing loose or getting in the way. Check for any tears or any solder points coming up.

Other than that, I hope you resolve this issue and would be interested in hearing the cause of this malfunction. Best of luck!

Eric, thank you for your input. I will try this out and report back.

Eric, another thing.... I lost the metal bracket covering the home button cable socket. Might that be the cause of the problem?

The little metal hinge that pops on top of the connector for the touch id/home button? I do not believe it would cause this issue entirely but that bracket secures the connection, so it is possible that the connection isn't as snug as you originally thought. It is definitely a good spot to start.

Eric, thanks for the input. Do you know where I could purchase that little metal hinge? Let me know. Thanks. I really appreciate it.

I found a few on ebay searching iPhone 5 touch id bracket, but they are being sold in sets for a much higher price than they should go for. There are not many parts providers that have small parts and fasteners like this available so I would keep checking ebay to grab a single one if it shows up, or maybe there is someone on these forums that works for a shop that can get you one from a part-out cheaper than ebay. I'll keep an eye out as well.
