Keyboard (including power button) and trackpad are unresponsive.

So my mid 2013 Macbook air's keyboard and mouse have gone unresponsive, I would do an smc reset but the power button itself is not working, I managed to get an external keyboard and mouse attached to it but this morning after waking up i found my mac's screen black and the external hardware no longer working. The night before I had already booted up into safe mode and tried to repair the disk as the apple tech on the phone suggested but nothing happened, tried on a new user, tried restarting the laptop and updating to 10.10 but to no avail it wonk work. Now I think the laptop has shut down or the external hardware somehow got disconnected during the night and theres no way to get it out of safe mode. Im out of my warranty and desperately need the laptop to start working. Any ideas?

Answer this question I have this problem too

You maybe facing a known issue. Review this Apple TN: MacBook Air Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program. This would be covered under the extended warranty.

You may want to find a friend who will allow you to create a bootable drive. I would get a few USB thumb drives one to make a boot disk and a few others to make backup on what you have on your system before you bring it in.

You'll need this utility: DiskMaker X and the OS-X installer. Follow the instructions its quite easy.

Once you get the drive setup try restarting your system with it plugged in press the Option key to get to the Startup manager so you can select the USB drive. Here's the Apple TN for reference: Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs.

If you can't get this far you may have something else messed up.

If you do get this far you'll need to copy off your files using the other USB port to hold your backup thumb drives.

Good Luck!
