Replacement battery with iOS4 still working?

I heart that after an upgrade to iOS4 on an iPhone with a non original battery installed, charging the iPhone wasn't possible anymore.

Has anybody already experience with that?

Thanks, Christian

I just replaced the ifixit battery with an original OEM battery (eBay - $8.25) and my phone restored perfectly (iOS4)! Im writing this reply with my now working iPhone 3GS.

"original OEM" - well, it's only a nice phrase.

those cells can be good or bad - in your case - it was good, but the next one from the batch could have been bad. lipo cells are not easy to handle and depending on a few things like age, charging level when shipped, stored in a cold, dark room and so on - they can be good or bad.

in fact - using a lipo cell in a mobile device isn't the best thing i can think of (surely - the are pretty powerful, but even high grade produced ones can "explode" or have other issues - if they were slightly bent during the installtion - they could fail.

My experience hasn't been exactly this, but i have had issues being stuck in a restore loop (error 29) after i swapped out an old battery for a new ifixit battery AND THEN tried to update to iOS4. (It worked fine while i was still using iPhone OS 3.)

Once i attempted the iOS4 update, my phone went into a restore loop never to come out. See my original post for more details:

Why do I receive error code 29 when I attempt a restore?

At this point, i'm going to (try to) purchase an original OEM battery and see if that will unbrick my phone.

Thank you for your info. In this case I will probably wait with the update.
