Restarts instead of shutting down?

Dear All,

1) Recently my mac wont shutdown unless i click the power button till the screen goes off

2) will shut down unexcepectly whilst in sleep mode and on battery!

i tried all of the below without any luck-

1) Shutting down from guest account

2) Erase disk fully and fresh install of OSX yosemite

3) SMC reset

please let me know your thoughts suggestions.

it would be highly appreciated.

I do not think this is hardware related.

Mavericks and Yosemite changed the behavior of clicking the power button. You have to Control-Push to get the shutdown option dialog. (If that's what your asking).

Since you failed to state the year/model of your laptop, I can't say more than this: sleep/wake failure/freezing crashing is a "known issue" of both of these OS's when used with some older boxes.
