wont turn on and is warm when connected to a power source

My wife's iPod Nano 6th generation won't turn on. I have tried plugging it into a wall power source as well as USB cord to my home computer (which doesn't recognize it at all when connected) and it doesn't turn on. i have tired re-setting it while connected to the power source and when not connected to no avail. The other odd part (get ready for it...) is that the body of the Nano seems to get hot when it is connected to a power source. I'm guessing it is probably either a battery or board... how do I tell the difference and does it matter?

Answer this question I have this problem too
