Why can't I connect to ANY wifi access point?

I can see wifi access points in range, but cannot connect to them. Open or secured makes no difference. What could be causing my issue?

Are you accessing the same AP with either open or WPA2 connections? If you are your Cable router may be limited on how many connections it can allow access though.

I would go to a coffee shop some where which has an open WiFi service and see if it connects that way if it does that points back to your setup as being the issue Vs the iPad.

If you still can't connect on the coffee shop's open WiFi service I would erase the iPad and reload everything. Ouch!

I have a similar issue but try this before assuming the worst (hardware trouble). Next time you drop connection to your router from the iPad go to General settings and reset the network connection- it'll reboot the iPad. Try to reconnect- does it work now? If not it just might be hardware.

Mine is fixed up after a reset, but the problem likely to return.. usually happens after any app update downloads and simultaneous YouTube use. I haven't the patience to blow it away and reload everything.

It sounds like your AP's TCP/IP settings changed (DHCP) so the expected route path your iPad had cached nolonger was workable. Turning off and turning back on the WiFi connection after a few minutes more often fixes this kind of problem. To make this less of a problem check your AP's settings and speak with your provider to see if you can lengthen the address lease.

If someone changes the encryption key or passphrase on the access point, devices that worked before can't establish sessions and internet connections.

With the ipad on press and hold both the power button and the home button. The screen will go black. Keep holding until the apple logo appears then let go of the buttons. Once it's booted properly try connecting again.
