4 GB RAM memory chips with 2 GB RAM chips?

Can I install 2 additional 4 GB RAM memory chips in the existing two empty slots and leave the existing two - 2GB RAM memory chips - giving me 12 GB of Ram.

This is for an iMac EMC 2308, 21.5 inch, late 2009 model.
