My trackpad stopped working. I installed Yosemite and now it works?

I have a mid 2009 13" macbook pro. The bottom left trackpad was all but non functional. I was about to replace it and thought if I installed Yosemite it might have caught a driver to improve function. It now works perfectly. Is there a driver missing in Lion that Yosemite fixes? I am unable to do D or option D to do a diagnostics as it won't work. I also do not have the original system install disc so I can't figure out a way to do a self diagnostic.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Just luck I'm afraid.

Did you spill something on the keyboard/trackpad at some point?

The other thing here is the battery in some units swell up causing pressure against the trackpad.

As you didn't ID which exact model you have I can't offer you much more here.

Nothing spilled. I did take out the battery to get to the trackpad. I checked for the swelling and it was ok.
