I replaced the power button cable and reassembled the phone. But now i only get a black screen. I hear a ding sound after plugging in the charger so I know the battery is charging. I can also connect the phone to my computer and have it be detected by iTunes. I took the phone apart and rechecked all the connections, and still nothing. Any idea what could be wrong

Try reseating the LCD ribbon, because with everything else it sounds like the hardware is working fine. The issue is not getting the screen to wake up. Have you tried a hard reset while it put back to together.... its when you press the power & the home button at the same time for 20 seconds while it is plugged into a wall outlet for charging not a computer.
