backup data & restore to factory setting before selling

How to backup data (files, photos, videos, music) from Asus Vivi 13" laptop (Model: Q301LA-BHT5T02 w/ Intel Core i5-4200U processor) to an external drive. My daughter is selling her laptop and wants to remove/save her data (presumably to an external drive), and restore it to factory settings while keeping the Windows 8 and Outlook programs on the laptop. She plans on inserting her brothers Apple Mac Air.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Not every time, but Outlook Mac is known to get stuck when PST files are imported especially when the pst file is large. PST is the format how Outlook Windows is known to export the emails.

I said "not every time" in the very first line.

I recommend you to take a backup of the PST files before the migration. there are quite many tools in Windows. I haven't used any, thus won't recommend.

i use Mail Backup X which comes exclusively for Mac. You can import the PST files to this tool. you have a backup to compensate any potential loss.

you can import the Outlook Windows Outlook emails safely now.

The tool only works for emails. don't expect it to backup rest of the files.

Here is the link for an easier search.

hope that helps
